Buh-Bye hair!

"Cuts for Cami" will be a day that will be etched in my memory forever! I am extremely overwhelmed's actually very difficult to even put into words all the emotions I am experiencing. All I can say is my heart is overflowing with love. I'm amazed and grateful for all the many friends, family and even strangers who reached out and showered our family with kindness, love, support along with lots and lots of HAIR!!! There are just too many people to acknowledge and a mere "thank you" just doesn't seem adequate but THANK YOU all the same. Thank you to EVERYONE who volunteered, attended and donated. What an amazing, wonderful day for our family that we will never, ever forget!!! I wish I could express myself better but hopefully you will sense this amazing day through the pictures I post.

The hair-cutting party that Justin had suggested GREW to an event that far exceeded our expectations. To be honest, I was very nervous about shaving Cami's head in front of so many people. As the day grew closer, I was more and more apprehensive about sharing this intimate, private moment with so many! But it's what Cami wanted to do and she was SO right! It helped so much to look up (thru my tears) into the eyes of all the family and friends who were there to cheer her on. The strong spirit of love and support was amazing! Instead of being a sad event, it ended up being a big ole' party to celebrate our beautiful, brave Cami! Thank you and much love to everyone who was involved! Thank you from the bottom of my heart! Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU!!!!!!!

Cami has now changed her mind about being a bug scientist when she grows up.
She now wants to be a "bug hair-cutter".

Caden's turn...

Just before her big moment-

Pat and Cami were such troopers- I, on the other hand, didn't hold it together as well

What a brave, amazing little thing she is!
I am blown away by her strength each and every day.

almost all gone.
This was about the point where Cami said "who needs hair anyways?"

Some of the little ones that shaved their heads to support Cami...

We were so happy that Cami's friend Millie made it out.
She is another one of the bravest little girls I know.
One of the first things Cami said after was "Im bald now, like Millie"

Here are some pics of just a few of the people who so unselfishly took time out of their day to come support us. We love you all. Thank you!!!

There was even an article about Cuts for Cami in the Deseret News.
Check it out here.

  1. I am so glad it went well. That picture on the cover of the Deseret News was so beautiful! I love how your family is handling this with so much joy and hope. You are in our prayers. Also, I read earlier that Cami loved the dog at the hospital - if you ever want us to bring our yellow lab by, we can. He always enjoys meeting new kids!

  2. I haven't been commenting on here very often but I check all the time to see how you guys are doing! What an amazing event. The Deseret News article was so awesome, especially the pictures. Looking at them and seeing you trying to hold it together makes me tear up every time, but I am so amazed at Cami's strength, and yours and Pats too! Love you guys. We have more mail on the way soon!

  3. Love you guys! This event was so awesome and I just loved seeing the pictures and feeling like I was there.

I cry everytime I read your blog, but most of the time they aren't sad tears. You have such an amazing support system, and amazing daughter, and an amazing attitude.

We have something for Cami. I learned something new to make it for her. :) It should be done this week!

Oh, and I can't wait to take my pet bugs to Cami the bug hair cutter in the future! :)

  4. I know that you don't know me but I have been following Cami's story. When I saw the posters by my house I said I have to go and support them. We were moving that day and I wasn't able to make it to the party but Cami was in my thoughts and prayer all day! I even told my husband that if we went I would finally let him buz his head. (he has been wanting to do this forever)
I am sorry we missed out but want you to know that your family is in my prayers! You are so strong.
I am amazed my your blog! It is wonderful to have this to look back on. When my dad had cancer we didn't take any picture and I wish that we would have!

I would like to make some fun flowers for Cami. Where can I send them?

  5. I'm so sad we were out of town! What a beautiful memory! It's amazing the love people even strangers have for eachother. It's such a miracle to see your sweet girl so strong. It makes me want to be a little braver. So many angels on earth and in heaven are watching over her. We are all lucky to know her story. Thanks for sharing. All our love and sending good thoughts and prayers your way-erica

  8. It was an awesome and beautiful event. Thank you for sharing it.

  9. Camryn spent most of Sat. night & Sunday experimenting and playing with all her hair-accessories! She has not whined, complained or said one negative comment regarding her new buzz. She remains confident, cheerful, happy and positive! I just love and admire her SO much!!!!

Millie (Brady and Amanda) - Thank you all for coming - it meant so much to Cam and FAM! Millie, you are a great example to Cami! YOU helped her be brave as she saw how beautiful a little girl can be without hair!

Kaidyn is a very special 8 year old, Leukemia survivor! Kaidyn does not know Cami but still lovingly gave Cami all her favorite hair scarfs and hats that she no longer needs. Cami LOVEs them and promises to pass them on to another deserving girl once her hair grows back. Thank you so much Kaidyn!!!! What a sweetie you are!

After Saturday.....I think Bald is Beautiful!!!!

  20. This post really took me back. I sobbed actually remembering all the emotions. Both of my daughters cut their hair boy short, my husband and son shaved their heads also. It really is so amazing watching the support of the people that love you. Then of course when I got to the pic with Amanda and Millie I really sobbed. How wonderful it is that these girls have each other. I can only imagine that will be friendship that will last them throughout their lives. "Who needs hair anyways"!!

  21. I am so happy we got to come support you guys. I wish Millie hadn't been so tired while we were there but it was all she could talk about for the rest of the day. Cami you are one strong cookie! We love you.

  22. I am so sad that we weren't able to make it. I am glad that it turned out to be such a positive experience of love and support for Cami and your family.
My prayers are always with you.
